Help Me, ChatGPT @The Factory Theatre

Verdict: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (reviewed Wednesday 23 April 2025).

Tiffany Wong, founder of Slanted Theatre and Sydney’s quirkiest storyteller is back with a new dramatical experiment. Help ChatGPT tests AI’s ability to predict relationship compatibility based on a handful of audience prompts. Kind of like the 1980s version of Perfect Match. Tiffany hosts and performs this 1-hr science experiment, multitasking with furious girl-boss gaze while keeping score on finding her ultimate soulmate. Superficial descriptions (my date is wearing a green sweater) and first impressions are fed into the ChatGPT textbox for further analysis.

In a closing monologue, Tiffany draws parallels between her fascinating experiment and the social conditioning ‘algorithms’ we’ve been taught to accept. Maybe if these algorithms didn’t exist, we would be freer to accept love in its most purist form.

The comedic timing is a bit bumpy meaning we don’t get the smooth ride we’d hoped for. But as an interesting thought piece there is a future in this romantic TED Talk.

Would love to see a part 2 where ChatGPT is deployed to conduct a job interview and select the best applicant!

Help Me, ChatGPT played at The Factory Theatre as part of the Sydney Comedy Festival on 22-23 April. For more dates and updates about this show, go to https://slantedtheatre.com/help-me-chatgpt-3/
