Emma Donovan takes us to the river and beyond, a road trip of personal adventures and wisdom gathered along the way. Classics once dominated by the likes of George Harrison, Bob Dylan and Al Green are given a thorough make-over by the voice of Mother-Earth. Emma Donovan doesn’t just sing to an audience – she feeds them – warmth, gratitude, fortitude, and love. Her identity as a proud Gumbaynggirr and Noongar woman is expressed in her lyrics, yarns and plumed evening dress. And family, including her two young daughters and cousin Casey Donovan also made an appearance on stage.

The performance is accompanied by a live band and back-up singers Georgia Corowa and Eilla Appo from the Sugar Cane Momas. Her sister gave a beautiful Welcome to Country.

Emma also performed a duet with actress and singer Ursula Yovich.

The video projections added to the fluid sensation of travelling, beyond the river, on long dusty road trips and memories around the hills hoist. Of spending time in the kitchen with grandma over a cup of tea. These family moments, of belonging in a place that feels safe and nurturing, is universal.

A wonderful evening that pays tribute to family, Country and connection.
