Sydney’s iconic Flight Path Theatre launched its 2026 season with Foreplay, a suite of bold, new and favourite independent theatre companies creating stories that push every boundary and cover every genre.

Each theatre company on the 2026 program presented a 5-minute teaser-scene, giving audiences and reviewers plenty of speculative intrigue.

The shows, as to be expected, are extremely diverse, entertaining and psychologically satiating.

Flight Path Theatre co-directors Kate Bookallil and Siobhan Lawless, stated in their program:

We love the first meeting with companies and hearing passionate stories
about why they’re pitching their projects. We love observing each team
being assembled, both on stage and off. We love booking in our venue
techs to discuss design and how they can help bring various worlds to life.
We love the moment the audience begin to arrive, and we chat about
where they have travelled from and food they have enjoyed in Marrickville.
We love the energy in the dressing room as we inform the performers and
stage manager that it’s time to welcome in their audience. We love
sneaking into the front row with anticipation as the lights go down. We
love to board the flight that will take us somewhere else, out of ourselves
and into new levels of understanding, compassion and connection. We love
our community, who are diverse and generous and put everything they
have into creating and witnessing theatre. You are all why we are here.

Thank you and here is to all the stories that will take us somewhere in
2026.

Two of our personal favourites in 2025 will be returning, including:

The prestigious Katie Lees Fellowship will also be presented, with submissions opening in early 2026.
