Once Upon a Grimm Night @ Lindesay House

Verdict: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (reviewed Friday 5 July)

Once Upon a Grimm Night written and directed by Emily McKendry and presented by Odyssey Theatre is an enchanting escape-room style theatre on the beautiful heritage grounds of Linsesay House in Darling Point.

Our group of 10 came from miles around (as far as Central Coast) to take part in this mystery storytelling that has quite a few complex puzzles and riddles that must be solved in order to move forward.

Along the way we meet the Host / Narrator (Jared Gerschwitz), the Maiden (Phoebe Lumley Tow), the Witch (Emily McKendry) and the Grimm (Harlee Timms) all dressed up in fairytale costumes and ready to exchange witticisms with a curious crowd. Our host hints ominously that ‘participation is mandatory’ with a few loud bangs throughout the 1-hour performance (warning: perhaps a bit too loud for those with sensitive hearing).

Our group of all ages from young to old had jolly good fun, solving the mystery of the missing Fairy Godmother and assisting the Witch to boil her brew.

At three shows a day every Thursday / Friday throughout July, this show will impress visiting out-of-towners and anyone looking to explore one of Sydney’s hidden gems. Lindsey House is full of historical paintings and artefacts, while the surrounding neighbourbood in Darling Point dazzles at night with gorgeous skyline views.
